Black Opal Wine was founded in Killara, New South Wales in 1986 by Mark Cashmore. In 1994, he sold the brand to Mildara Blass. In 1997, Mildara Blass was purchased by Foster’s Group, which spun off its wine holdings into a new company called Treasury Wine Estates in 2011. In 2017, that company sold the Black Opal brand to Bronco Wine Company, based out of Ceres, California.
