Ruinart Champagne was founded in Reims, France in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart. In 1963, the business was sold to Moët et Chandon, which became Moët Hennessey in 1971 following the acquisition of Hennessey cognac. In 1987 it merged again with Louis Vuitton to become Louis-Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy (LVMH).
