Simi Winery was founded in Sonoma, California in 1876 by Giuseppe and Pietro Simi, two brothers who had recently immigrated from Italy. Giuseppe’s daughter, Isabelle Simi, took over at age 18 when both brothers died suddenly within weeks of each other. She ran the winery until retiring at age 84 in 1970. In 1981, the winery was sold to Moët-Hennessey, which merged with Louis Vuitton in 1987 to become LVMH. In 1999, LVMH sold Simi Winery to Canandaigua Brands for $50 million. The following year, Canandaigua rebranded to Constellation Brands.
