Moët et Chandon was founded in Épernay, France in 1743 by Claude Moët, and was originally known as Moët & Co. In 1833, Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles (Claude Moët’s grandson-in-law) joined the company as a partner, and it was renamed to Moët et Chandon. In 1971, Moët et Chandon had merged with Hennessey Cognac, and in 1987 it had merged again with Louis Vuitton to become Louis-Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy (LVMH).
