Beringer Vineyards was founded in St. Helena, California in 1876 by Jacob and Frederick Beringer. It was run by Jacob’s children Charles and Bertha Beringer beginning in 1915, and stayed family owned until 1971, when it was purchased by NestlĂ©. In 1996, the brand was purchased from NestlĂ© by Texas Pacific Group, a private equity fund that had recently purchased Continental Airlines. They held it until 2000, when it was sold to Australian conglomerate Foster’s Group, which split off its wine division in 2011 to become Treasury Wine Estates.
