Champagne Besserat de Bellefon was founded in Aÿ, France in 1843 by Edmond Besserat. The company took on its name when Besserat’s grandson, Edmon Besserat II, married Yvonne Méric de Bellefon. In 1971, the brand was bought by Pernod Ricard, which later sold it to Maison Burtin. In 2006, Maison Burtin was purchased by Boizel Chanoine Champagne, which later renamed itself to Lanson-BCC.
