Matua Wine was founded in Auckland, New Zealand in 1974 by brothers Bill and Ross Spence. In 2001, it was purchased by Beringer Blass Wine Estates, which had recently been become a subsidiary of Foster’s Group. In 2011, Foster’s split off its wine division to become Treasury Wine Estates.
