Katnook Estate Winery was founded in Coonawarra, South Australia in 1896 by John Riddoch. In 1967, Katnoon was purchased by the Yunghanns family, who two years later founded the Wingara Wine Group. In 2008, Wingara was purchased by Spanish company Freixenet. Ten years later, Freixenet was acquired by German wine company Henkell, which then was renamed to Henkell Freixenet. That company sold Katnook Estate to Accolade Wine in 2020. Accolade is owned by American private equity group The Carlyle Group.
