Piper-Heidsieck Champagne was founded in Reims, France in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck, and originally only bore his name. When Heidsieck died in 1828, the company was taken over by his nephew Christian Heidsieck and his cousin Henri-Guillaume Piper. When Christian died and Henri married his widow, the winery became known as Piper-Heidsieck.
In 1988, the winery was taken over by Rémy Cointreau. They held the company until 2011, when it was sold to holding company Européenne de Participations Industrielles for more than 400 million euros. In 2013, that company changed its name to EPI.
