Bodega La Rioja Alta was founded in Haro, Spain in 1890 by Daniel-Alfredo Ardanza y Sanchez, Saturnina Garcia Cid y Gárete, Dionisio del Prado y Lablanca, Felipe Puig de la Bellacasa y Herrán, and Mariano Lacorte Tapia. The company was originally known as Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta, and in 1904 it merged with Alfredo Ardanza’s other winery, Ardanza Winery.
