Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium Wine was founded in Trier, Germany in 1561 by the Jesuit order. In 1773, that order was dissolved by decree of Pope Clemens XIV, and the winery and college was given to Elector Clemens Wenzeslaus. In 1896, under Prussian rule, the school and winery was renamed Friederich Wilhelm Gymnasium. In 2003, it was acquired by the other Episcopal brands known as Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier.
