Domeine de la Romanée-Conti was founded in Vosne-Romanée, France in 1631 by the Croonembourg family. In 1760, André de Croonembourg sold the estate to Louis François, Prince of Conti for 8,000 livres, over the bid of Louis XV’s mistress Madame de Pompadour. When the French Revolution came, the property was siezed and auctioned to Nicolas Defer de la Nouerre, who sold it in 1819 for 78,000 livres to Julien Ouvrard. In 1869 it was sold to Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet. The property is now owned by a Société-Civile made up of his descendants.
