Hardy’s Wine was founded in Old Reynella, South Australia in 1853 by Thomas Hardy. The company steadily expanded, and in 1876 purchased Tintara Vineyard Company. Hardy’s purchased Emu Wine Company in 1976, in its first corporate acquisition in the modern era. In 1992 the company merged with Berri Renmano Limited to become BRL Hardy Limited. In 2003, they merged with Constellation Brands Australia to become The Hardy Wine Company, which was a division of Constellation’s larger company. In 2010, they sold an 80% stake in the company to CHAMP Private Equity, which renamed the business to Accolade Wines. In 2018, Accolade was sold to the American private equity company The Carlyle Group.
