Seppelt Wine was founded in Seppeltsfield, South Australia in 1865 by Joseph Best. It was originally known as Great Western Winery, and was purchased by Hans Irvine in 1888. In 1918, Benno Seppelt took ownership and renamed it to Seppelt Winery. In 1970, the winery became publicly listed, and was acquired fully by SA Brewing in 1984. In 1990, SA Brewing split into three separate companies, with the wineries becoming Southcorp Wines.
Southcorp was purchased by Foster’s Group in 2005. In 2011, Foster’s split its wine holdings into a new company, which they called Treasury Wine Estates.
