Schloss Vollrads Estate Winery was founded in Oestrich-Winkel, Germany in 1211 by brothers Emmricho and Heinrich Grifenclawa. The winery remained in their family for 27 generations, until 1997. That year, with the winery heavily in debt, Schloss Vollrads was declared bankrupt, and owner Erwein Graf Matuschka-Greiffenclau subsequently committed suicide. The property was taken over by bank Nassauische Sparkasse, which still owns the winery to this day.
