Kumala Wines was founded in Paardvelei, South Africa in 1995 by Western Wines. In 2004, it was purchased by Constellation Brands and placed in its Hardy Wines division. They later sold an 80% stake in the company to CHAMP Private Equity, which renamed the business to Accolade Wines. In 2018, Accolade was sold to the American private equity company The Carlyle Group.
