Franciscan Wine was founded in St. Helena, California in 1972 by Justin Meyers and Raymond Duncan. In 1985, the winery was purchased by Agustin Huneeus, who became managing partner. In 1999, it was sold again for $240 million by Canandaigua, which changed its name to Constellation Brands one year later. In 2019, Estancia and 29 other brands were sold to E & J Gallo Winery for $1.7 billion.
