Fonseca Port was founded in Valença do Douro, Portugal in 1815 by the Fonseca family, and was purchased by Manoel Pedro Gonçalves Guimaraens and his brother João Gonçalves Salgueiro seven years later. The company was owned by the Guimaraens family until 1948, when it was purchased by Taylor, Fladgate and Yeatman, which was later renamed The Fladgate Partnership.
