Edna Valley Vineyard was founded in San Luis Obispo, California in 1981 by Paragon Vineyard Company, owned by Jack Niven, and Chalone Vineyard. In 2004, Chalone was sold to Diageo. In 2011, Diageo sold the Chalone enterprise to E & J Gallo Winery, who sought sole ownership of the Edna Valley brand and purchased the remaining stake from Paragon Vineyard Company.
