Bonterra Organic Estates was founded in Hopland, California in 1968 by Barney Fetzer. It was originally known as Fetzer Vineyards, and planted its first organic fields in 1987. In 1992, the company was purchased by Brown-Forman, and later sold to Viña Concha y Toro in 2011 for $238 million. In 2022, the main brand was renamed Bonterra. However, they still operate another brand under the Fetzer label.
